Excel

Funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Excel at VHCC serves more than 200 students each year through this federal program.

Participating students have access to a wide variety of services including academic workshops that provide tips for success in the classroom, one-on-one academic advising, and targeted transfer counseling. Additionally, Excel provides tutoring, college visits, assistance completing financial aid applications and other college forms, and transfer counseling to help students transition from VHCC to four-year institutions.

Through these and other services, Excel provides the support and tools students need to succeed at VHCC and prepare for transition to the next level of higher education.

In order to participate in Excel, students at VHCC must demonstrate an academic need for services and meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

• Be a first-generation college student. This means that neither parent earned a four-year college degree.
• Be classified as low income. To qualify, your annual taxable income must not exceed 150% of the poverty level as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Have a documented physical or learning disability.
